End of Another Exciting Year

Dec 21, 2009
Bonane Heritage Park has had another exciting year with well over 6000 visitors and we look forward to continuing the success into 2010. With your continued support and the support of our members, SKDP and also 'Coillte' who have been enormously helpful since the park opened, we hope to improve the park still further. In the new year we will update the website with more information and also create a 'blog' and a newsletter - watch this space. For 2009 all that remains is to say thank you and we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Cork - Swansea Ferry

Dec 18, 2009
The great news is that the Cork - Swansea Ferry will be back in service on March 1st 2010 and it is largely down to the efforts of individuals and companies from both Kerry and Cork. The ferry provides a great link between the South West of Ireland and the UK and provides travellers with easy access to so many wonderful attractions that are on offer, not least Bonane Heritage Park, without that long and arduous journey from Rosslare. Instead, travel overnight and wake up refreshed and ready for your holiday. Shareholders, by investing their money and showing their faith in this venture, are responsible for getting the ferry afloat and opening up this spectacular corner of Ireland and therefore our thanks are extended to them.

Special thanks is also extended to the South Kerry Development Partnership (SKDP) for the funding that made this feasibility study possible.

Pride of Place 2008 Environment Award

Nov 10, 2008
Author: Caroline

Pride of PlaceSaturday the 8th November 2008 was the date for the Pride of Place Awards Ceremony in Cappoquin, Co. Waterford. Although only two members of the Committee could attend the Awards function, 18 people in total travelled to Cappoquin for the event.

We were entered in Category Nine, the Environment Category, when this Category was announced we were delighted to discover that we were one of six Short listed for the Award, we were not called out as 1st or 2nd Runner-Up so while disappointed for a few seconds realization quickly dawned that we were actually now in with a 1 in 4 chance of winning the Award.

There was a break in proceedings after the presentation of the Runner-Up Awards for each category. This was shortly followed by the arrival of the President; Mary McAleese. The presentation of prizes recommenced after this and it was a very anxious wait for Category Nine, the first few words gave nothing away but then as they continued to speak of the Winning Entry we discovered to much delight that we had in fact achieved our aim in winning this Award.

We were delighted to receive the Award from President Mary McAleese.

This was quickly followed by calls and texts to all the supporters just as anxiously awaiting the news in Cappoquin and Kerry. I need not tell you we did celebrate.

Upon our return to Bonane Sunday afternoon we were welcomed by a large crowd of well wishers.
Congratulations and thanks to everyone who helped to get us here.
